A family from California (USA) is grateful for their dog being alive after being viciously attacked by a mountain lion.
Holly Jolly, the 3-year-old Schnauzer , was in the backyard while her owners, Steve and Nicole, were watching a movie inside the house. “We heard a scream and my husband said, ‘Is that Holly?’, and I said, ‘No, I think it’s the television,’ and he said, ‘No, I think it’s Holly’,” Nicole explained in an interview with KTLA.
It didn’t take long for the couple to agree that the screams weren’t coming from the TV but rather from the backyard. They began yelling at the wild animal, which was enough to scare it off, allowing Holly Jolly to free herself and run to safety.
“As soon as I heard how intense the fight was, I thought there was no way. I was imagining a skunk or something here she was just playing with, so I came in and grabbed a gun,” Steve recounted.
The unwelcome guest disappeared as soon as Steve fetched his firearm, but it returned about 20 minutes later, according to the couple. According to KTLA, the feline may have returned to finish off its wounded prey.
Holly Jolly’s owners quickly rushed her to the vet, where she was treated for puncture wounds, scratches, and a wound that required stitches.
She is recovering well and happy to feel her family’s love. “She’s enjoying all the extra love, all the extra treats, all the extra attention,” Nicole celebrated to KTLA.
